Connect a computer
For people who want an AI agent to work on their computer.
Hither lets an AI agent use your computer. You approve the agent on that computer and choose what it can use: files, Terminal, a browser, or MCP servers you already set up. An app called the helper carries out the agent's requests as your user account. Read approve and stop access before connecting an agent you don't know.
Add Hither to your AI app
Add https://hither.dev/mcp to the app as an MCP server. Apps has the steps for Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and others. The app then opens a page where you either sign in or choose Continue without an account.
Without an account, each computer gets up to 24 hours of access, and the agent can have 5 computers at a time, counting requests you haven't approved yet. With an account, access lasts until you remove it.
If your app can't add an MCP server, it can still connect for 24 hours by following https://hither.dev/skill.md.
Connect the computer
- Ask your agent: "Connect my computer with Hither."
- Open the link it sends you on the computer it should use.
- Choose what the agent can use, then run the setup command for Mac and Linux or for Windows.
- Read the request in the terminal and approve it. The page shows when you're connected.
The link works for 10 minutes; ask for a new one if it expires. The agent name on the request is whatever the agent typed, so approve only a request you just asked for.
Setup installs the helper, a menu-bar or tray icon, and a private runtime if needed. The private runtime needs macOS 13.5 or newer, or the libatomic1 package on Linux. A computer that already has Node 22.13 or newer uses that instead. If the helper is already installed, hither pair CODE with the page's code skips the install. Keep the computer awake and online while the agent works.
To use the same agent on another computer, ask it again and approve on that computer too.
Keep access past 24 hours
An agent you signed in with an account already gets lasting access, unless it asked for less. For an agent without an account, there are two steps, and only you can take the second one, on the computer:
- Ask the agent to link itself to your account. It sends you a link that works for 10 minutes. Open it, sign in and confirm.
- Ask the agent to keep its access. The computer asks you whether to allow it; choose Allow. You can also do this without the agent asking: choose the connection in the menu-bar or tray icon, or run
hither extend listand thenhither extend CONNECTION_IDon the computer.
The connection keeps the same permissions and lasts until you remove it. It works while the connection is active and for 12 hours after it expires. The computer itself needs no account.
Manage computers from an account
Sign in at the dashboard and choose Add a computer to see and change every agent on that computer from one place. Run the setup command it shows on the computer and approve in the terminal. An existing helper and its connections stay as they are.
Stop access
Choose Disconnect on the setup page, Remove in the menu-bar or tray icon, or run hither revoke on the computer to remove every agent. Closing the page stops nothing. Every way to stop access.
